Which scalp treatment should I use?

20.06.2022 | Haircare

The scalp is perhaps one of the most easily forgotten areas of the body – especially when it comes to self care and T.L.C. That said, many of us are beginning to come around to the fact that the scalp is just as important as the skin on the rest of the body, as well as the hair itself. Here at INKEY, our haircare line features two bestselling scalp treatments to help maintain scalp and hair health. But when do you know when it’s time to use a scalp treatment, and which one should you be reaching for?

Learn more about why scalp health is so important here.

WHY SCALP TREATMENT IS IMPORTANT

As mentioned, caring for the scalp as well as the rest of the hair is crucial. As well as a plethora of hair follicles, the scalp also has oil glands that produce sebum, just like the skin on the face. For this reason, it should be met with the same level of care.

While all scalps will benefit from a regular treatment to maintain them, those with itchiness, redness, or flakes may especially want to invest in a product for the scalp to re-balance and boost hair health.

WHAT ARE THE TYPES OF SCALP TREATMENT?

So what is the best treatment for your scalp specifically? We lay out everything you need to know about both our Glycolic Acid Scalp Scrub, and our Salicylic Acid Scalp Treatment below.

Glycolic Acid Scalp Scrub

Benefits: This ten minute scalp treatment has a gentle exfoliating effect thanks to its chemical and physical exfoliators. The texture of the product is a lightweight serum, with castor beads made from 100% biodegradable hydrogenated castor oil. The scrub helps to protect and balance the scalp’s microbiome, keep the hair follicles clean, and remove excessive build up of oil and product. This in turn boosts hair growth and plumps roots.

Who it’s for: This product really suits all hair types, including those with sensitive scalps and coloured hair. It’s great for maintaining hair and scalp health.

How to use it: The scrub is best used as a pre-shampoo treatment, applied through parted sections of the scalp and left on for 10 minutes before getting into the shower. It should be used 1-2 times a week, and can be used in conjunction with the Salicylic Acid Scalp Treatment, which can be supplemented into your haircare routine on one of those 1-2 occasions.

Salicylic Acid Scalp Treatment

Benefits: This scalp treatment targets excess oil production and exfoliates gently. It also helps with issues such as redness, itchiness and flaking, meaning it’s ideal for an irritated scalp. The product comes in an ultra-lightweight serum, which easily sinks into skin.

Who it’s for: As mentioned, this serum is perfect for anybody suffering with specific scalp issues, including flaking, irritation, redness, and itchiness. That said, it can be used by all, suitable for any hair type, including those with coloured hair or sensitive scalps.

How to use it: The serum should be used as a pre-shampoo treatment, applied through parted sections of the scalp and left on for 10 minutes before being washed off. It should be used 1-2 times a week, and can be used in conjunction with the Glycolic Acid Scalp Scrub, which can be supplemented into your haircare routine on one of those 1-2 occasions.
